Dem niederländischen Regierungssitz Den Haag kam durch die weit ausgreifende Politik der Republik zwischen den westfälischen Friedensschlüssen und den ersten beiden Jahrzehnten des 18. Jahrhunderts eine Schlüsselstellung im europäischen Gesandtschaftswesen zu. In den Kriegen, die auf die Epochenwende 1648 und 1659/60 folgten, wurde nicht mehr wie in den vorhergehenden Religionskriegen um die Existenz gerungen, sondern um die Aufrechterhaltung oder Wiederherstellung einer gedachten Machtbalance. Daraus erwuchs den Gesandten eine neue Aufgabenfülle und politische Rolle. Das blieb nicht ohne Wirkung auf die Gesandten, die Veränderungen nicht nur ertrugen, sondern zunehmend selbst gestaltend eingriffen. Diese dynamischen Prozesse in der Arbeitsweise von Gesandten dreier Höfe am niederländischen Regierungssitz Den Haag stehen im Mittelpunkt der vorliegenden Arbeit. Indem aufgearbeitet wird, wie Den Haag von einem Treffpunkt von Gesandten zum Brennpunkt europäischer Diplomatie wurde, möchte die vorliegende Studie einen Beitrag zur Geschichte des Gesandtschaftswesens im frühneuzeitlichen Europa leisten.

Diese Untersuchung zu den deutsch-niederländischen Beziehungen im Ersten Weltkrieg thematisiert die deutsche kultur- und pressepolitische Arbeit in den Niederlanden. Sie versucht den ,Lockvogelgesang', das ,Werben' und seine Wirksamkeit darzustellen.
Die wechselseitige Perzeption der beiden Nachbarstaaten wurde geprägt von der Unterschiedlichkeit der Länder in Tradition und Mentalität. Zu Recht stellte in jener Zeit schon der Kunsthistoriker und Niederlandekenner Friedrich K. A. (Fritz) Wiehert fest, es sei überraschend, wie wenig die Deutschen über die Niederlande und wie wenig die Niederländer über Deutschland wüssten, trotz oder gerade wegen der nachbarlichen Nähe. Was wurde unternommen, welche Mittel wurden eingesetzt, um die Niederlande zu einer Parteinahme zu bewegen oder sie Deutschland wenigstens gewogen zu stimmen? Hier ist vor allem der in Den Haag tätigen geheimen Hilfsstelle eine wichtige Rolle zuzuschreiben. Ihre Aufgabe war es, das neutrale Nachbarland durch kulturelle Mittel deutschfreundlich zu beeinflussen mit der Zielvorgabe, die Niederlande in einen kulturellen Außenposten im Sinne des Deutschen Reiches zu verwandeln.

In the 1990s, amid political upheaval and civil war, the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia dissolved into five successor states. The subsequent independence of Montenegro and Kosovo brought the total number to seven. Balkan scholar and diplomat to the region Mieczysław P. Boduszyński examines four of those states—Croatia, Slovenia, Macedonia, and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia—and traces their divergent paths toward democracy and Euro-Atlantic integration over the past two decades.Boduszyński argues that regime change in the Yugoslav successor states was powerfully shaped by both internal and external forces: the economic conditions on the eve of independence and transition and the incentives offered by the European Union and other Western actors to encourage economic and political liberalization. He shows how these factors contributed to differing formulations of democracy in each state.The author engages with the vexing problems of creating and sustaining democracy when circumstances are not entirely supportive of the effort. He employs innovative concepts to measure the quality of and prospects for democracy in the Balkan region, arguing that procedural indicators of democratization do not adequately describe the stability of liberalism in post-communist states. This unique perspective on developments in the region provides relevant lessons for regime change in the larger post-communist world. Scholars, practitioners, and policymakers will find the book to be a compelling contribution to the study of comparative politics, democratization, and European integration.

The keynote of the recent history of the faculty of educational science of Florence University is change. This has emerged in response to the demands for education expressed by a new knowledge society, spawned by the processes of globalisation, and the social need to foster interculturalism and the dialogue between diversities. In this new dimension of change, education becomes the framework for preparation, but also for re-integrating and updating life itineraries that are swift and precarious, veined with insecurity and disillusionment. Even in the new approach, the scientific and cultural benchmark continues to be a consistent adherence to the secular, historic-pedagogic and educational tradition represented by the masters of the "Florence School". Since its creation in 1996, the new faculty has staked forcefully on the centrality of training in relation to the traditional focus on the professionalism of primary and secondary school teachers, and on the new extra-scholastic training issues: the educational professions; pedagogic care; the social education of adults; the technologies of education and instruction; the philosophic, sociological, psychological and anthropological dimension of education; the broad sphere of hardship and marginalisation and the different faces of diversity.

Este libro presenta un conjunto de problemas en el desarrollo de la revolución en la capital nacional. No es una historia exhaustiva sino indicativa, sintomática, tal vez, de las implicaciones de la revolución para la ciudad. Los años que contempla la investigación dan cuenta de los ensayos y errores en la búsqueda de nuevas forma en el ejercicio de la autoridad política en la ciudad.
